Mistress of the Mountain

One woman's journey through life, love and happiness.

Welcome!

If you're just stopping by, there will be more here later. The design of this blog will change too. Grow with me as it will.

What is this blog about? Well it’s more of a dumping ground for all the things I need to keep track of. Recipes, spices and their uses, DIY projects interesting things I find around the net. A journal of my road to self independence.

I could make a database or a filing system but I figured if I’m going to do this I might as well share and filing systems are not searchable. I hate paper. It’s so yesterday, so stationary and permanent.

Cream Cheese Blintzes

I made these in my 9 inch cast iron skillet. It produced 6 blintzes. You could probably get more if you used a smaller pan.

Homemade Bearclaws

There are 2 ways to go about this recipe.
  1. The plan ahead, make everything the night before so it can proberly rest in the fridge way
  2. Or the I don't have 4 hours to kill to make breakfast, decided to make pastry at the last minute way

Chili Colorado Beans

The perfect vegitarian option to the traditional Chili Colorado. My husband loves Chili Colorado but being a recent convert to being a vegitarian I needed a version for myself.I made the beans over night in a crock pot, packaged them up and let them chill in the fridge. Then made the meat version before I went to work.Only problem is, my husband loved it so much there are hardley any leftovers.

Scalloped Potatoes with Cheese

These are dangerous!

Custard Style Vanilla Ice Cream for a 4 Qt Machine

My son is a big vanilla fan. I make this every summer and it disapears fast. Nothing beats homemade ice cream. If you use non-fat milk, substitute heavy cream for the half and half.

Cajun Shrimp Soup

I LOVE this soup. It's spicy and warm and filling and not too bad for you either.

"Instant Pancake Mix"

This could be used for both pancakes or waffles. Nothing saves time more than having your dry ingredients already mixed together. Just measur out and add the wet stuff, mix and cook.

Basic Waffles

My family loves waffles and this is a good basic recipe. I ussually double the recipe and make a big batch. I freeze the leftovers so they can pop them in the toaster and have waffles any time they want. They also make great breakfast sandwiches when used instead of an english muffin or bread.

Homemade Toothpaste

This is a wonderful light and minty toothpaste with only 4 ingredients. Your mouth will feel clean and fresh after using this paste. Use just a little, it goes a long way.
